Coming Home Has Come Home ~ Weaving Spells for the Speaking World
Come join us to create a truly unique meditation experience offered 2x/week: Tuesdays at 9am and Thursdays at Noon EST
Y’all,
Something very beautiful is happening with the Coming Home practice I’ve been offering since the earliest days of 2020. Just this week, I began a new format—an evolution of the old one. We practiced it on Tuesday and Thursday and already I can feel the huge potential.
I want to take a minute to explain the shift, my reasons for the shift, and what I can see as the benefits of this emergent practice.
The previous iteration of Coming Home, the one that served us through the pandemic and became my primary teaching as “The Art of Emergence,” went something like this: Each week I felt into what was emerging for me and then I offered a meditation on that theme. The day before teaching I would take a long walk on the farm, land on the topic, and then write something about that topic as an invitation into the session the next day. I wanted to give folks a heads up on the theme so they could decide whether or not it was resonating for them. I also made a loose structural plan for the meditations. Themes included such topics as: Letting Go, Grounding, Gratitude, Durga, Second Chakra, Heart Opening, Fire Element, Weirdness…whatever was alive for me. Over three years, I covered a lot of ground.
What I am trying now has required me to let go of even the little structure I had in place—a big trust fall. Coming Home sessions are now a truly collaborative, mutual emergence of meditation from the field. We are basking in the aliveness of the speaking world around us and weaving just the right journey into a state of deep presence with what is.
I do not prepare a topic or meditation in advance. I’ve had to let go of all ideas about that and trust my own reservoir of tools from several yogic and contemplative traditions. Who comes to the space is essential. We all bring our noticing, our gifts, and our needs. We bring what we have in abundance and what we could use support with. I open with what is alive for me—what I am noticing—and then open the floor. The invitation is to bring in anything that is stirred up and trying to find its way into our shared awareness. We listen to each other. I pick out symbols, make connections…we all do some weaving and surface the incredible synchronicities that are waiting to be discovered. We are tune in together to the field that we represent and that we are sitting within. We presence as much as possible in brief shares and then I weave that into a practice of inter-being with all there is. This is how we “meditate.”
What I have already noticed is how RICH, EVOCATIVE and COLORFUL the sits are. They have personality. They have life and light. They have humor and wit. They are gentle and fierce. They truly reflect, refract and illuminate what is present, wanting our deeper engagement. Yes! That’s it. It is a collective, deep engagement with LIFE. We allow the speaking world to speak to us and together, we listen.
I have to admit…I was worried that this format might end up being boring. I worried that it would always lead us to the same place: we’re suffering so we need to ground, need to settle, need to feel connected to the earth, each other, and our hearts. I worried it would become a share circle with a simple mindfulness practice to close. I am glad to report my fears were misguided. I was WRONG…in the best way. The deeper we listen, the more VIVID and exciting the space we get to sit in, open to, and learn from. It’s the opposite of boring. It is completely alive.
This new format allows me to use my greatest gifts in service of the sacred. I get to bring together my subtle sensing, knowledge of esoteric symbols, pattern recognition, deep listening, space holding, and spontaneous composition! I can sense that the more confident I get with the process, the more exciting it will become. I invite you to come play with us. It’s been beautiful.
I include here a recording of today’s meditation. We surfaced a theme around THE SUN through a few synchronicities too wild to be believed. Life truly is stranger than fiction and more enchanting. We noticed how each day has a unique energetic signature just waiting to be discovered and attuned to. We’re so often out of harmony with our surroundings. This 25-min meditation featured the sun with its profound life force energy, the lightness and play of children, giddiness, square dancing, the Mayans for their relationship to the energy of days and time. It was truly glorious. See what you think. The full experience can only be had by participating live, but a sneak peek is fun.
Hope to see you at a Coming Home session soon!
