Cultural Embodiment @ The Stoa Is Tomorrow at Noon EST ~ Feeling the Heat
Join us for our weekly session of feeling into the news and culture @ The Stoa
Dear Friends,Â
Europe is having a heat wave. Another one. Triple digit temperatures persist from Spain to the UK, wildfires rage, and an ongoing drought plagues Northern Italy. Scientists say heat waves in Europe are increasing in frequency and intensity at a faster rate than almost any other part of the planet.
This week the U.S. is also experiencing extreme heat in the southern plains states and it is estimated that over 100 million people have been impacted.
Let’s feel the heat.
Climate issues are an important topic for embodied processing. Almost nothing feels bigger, but also less actionable. It’s like spitting into the wind. From 2012-2017, I spent five years trying to raise awareness around the climate crisis. I worked with many companies, non-profits, and municipalities to figure out how to communicate the severity of the situation in ways people could grasp. For example, I worked with the city of Miami to find effective ways to talk about sea level rise and convened a climate summit at Facebook headquarters.
At that time I was coming into a deep embodied awareness of the severity of the situation and felt like nothing mattered more. It felt to me like THE thing we humans needed to rally around. I was doing research centered around how to get people to care more….how to break through the seemingly impenetrable apathy. Even then I could see it wasn’t apathy…it was fear, grief, and an enormously overwhelming sense of powerlessness. People were struck dumb. Getting them to care wasn’t a matter of scaring them or showing them potential future disasters, but helping them process the ones we’re in right now.
Tomorrow I’ll share a brief news clip from the UK along with some photos. Let’s see if we can feel our way into relationship with earth in her fevered state. Let’s see if we can help by truly being with what is happening…by feeling the heat.
Join me tomorrow from 12-1pm EST for embodied processing and sharing.
