I went for a walk today to process some things and this poem came as just the alchemy I needed. I am grateful to my muses or whoever sent it. I only changed a couple of words for clarity’s sake. I wonder what you think—to me it feels like a song. Anyone have a tune?
I really do choose love. Do you? Let’s do.
I Choose Love
Schuyler Brown
December 16, 2023
I choose love
I choose love
I choose love
Though the darkness is dark
Inky black
And the despair is heavy
Like the weight of the world
And the feeling of being trapped
Is like a multiple life sentence
In this body, in these conditions
A hero in my own tragedy
Still, I choose love.
I pray for relief
I pray to be seen
I pray for help
I pray for a miracle
I pray for all of these things
And yet, they never seem to come…
Until I choose love.
My heart hurts
I forget myself
I become a victim
I become a perpetrator
I feel lost
And confused
My closest allies
My only hope
I push even that away
Or at least, I try
I give it my best shot
To make things as bad "out there"
As they feel "in here"
But, when push comes to shove
Something in me,
Always chooses love.

This is so in alignment with my day today too. Thank you, I needed to hear this. My body relaxed listening to you read and feeling you. I really do choose love too. It is brave work.
Thank you Schulyer, this is the way i feel these days.
