Coming Home Meditation Tomorrow Morning 9-10am EST ~ As Above, So Below
Our meditation tomorrow will be a pause, a reflection, on the relationship between the above and below before we go to the upper chakras
Dear Friends,
Last week we completed the meditations on the heart chakras. Thank you to those of you who joined. We did three weeks of self-study and inner feeling. I thought each of the meditations was more beautiful than the last.
I mentioned at the end of class that I have been so focused on the lower chakras for such a long time, that I hadn’t really thought beyond the heart. Well, ask and ye shall receive. I have received some direct experience and instruction on the upper chakras in the last week. I look forward to sharing it with you, but I am not yet ready to guide us into the throat center. This gave me the idea to hit “pause.”
Tomorrow we will take a pause between the lower and upper chakras (of course, the heart is the center) and explore the relationship between above and below. We will see if we can feel our way into more awareness of the above and the below before we move into the upper energetic centers. I look forward to using some subtle sensing techniques with you…using the gaze, for example.
I am reminded of a moment in the great dance documentary, PINA (2011), by Wim Wenders, about the work of the remarkable choreographer, Pina Bausch. There is a scene where she describes a whole dance (duet, I think) that she chose to perform entirely with her eyes closed. She had done the performance many times like this and one day noticed that her eyes were “looking” down even though the lids were closed. She got curious about what would happen if she “looked” up behind her lids and she reported later that it changed the whole experience so completely it was a different dance altogether. I remember seeing the movie and being struck by her subtle embodied sensing (I didn’t know the word, embodiment, then), her pioneering spirit, and her COURAGE. It’s a fantastic movie, if you haven’t seen it:
Coming Home is a gently guided meditation open to anyone who is curious. We talk for about 20 minutes, sit for 30, and share for 10. It’s a beautiful way to start the day. Come!
This is a pay-what-you-feel experience each week. Suggested donation is $10-20 for drop ins. Whatever you feel called to give is wonderful and appreciated. Contributions can be made here: Paypal: schuyler@artofemergence.com or Venmo: ElizabethSchuyler-Brown. Paid subscribers, you are already covered. Thank you.
What I’ve experienced and shared from being a dancer, instructor and coach, (and through all of my spiritual sadhana at the same time) is that every direction of the eyes, what they see and take in, and do not see, the quality of focus, and how literal or transcendent it is - along with every position of the body, tip of the head, nuance through the fingers and fingertips and into the etheric body and beyond will change a sense of self, an experience, a perception - and in that, the way one is met in that experience and perceived. I saw the movie that you linked the trailer for when it came out and loved it (and saw her lecture and her company a few times in performance) but don’t remember Pina Bausch saying what she did about the eyes. It totally corroborates my experience and what opens up in dancers when I’m Inviting them to look out and take in with their eyes in relation to looking down and soley inside or within. I think that the implications of all of this with regard to opening to and through the intelligence of the body, embodied living and “conversations“ are profound.
